As Canyon and his handsome older brother Dylan lugged his bags into their father’s house, the young twink’s heart felt heavy as stone in his chest. Getting suspended from school for chronic bad behavior was one thing, but the tears of hurt and frustration on his mother’s face as she sent Canyon to his father Jimmy’s house to live for a while was the worst.
Waiting for his father to come and pick him up, Canyon was surprised yet not surprised to see Dylan pull up to fetch him instead. Jimmy was a very busy man and, in Canyon’s memory, seemingly always had been. However, the young twink had a very close relationship during his childhood with Dylan who was several years older.
Dylan led Canyon to his old bedroom; Canyon was amazed that nothing had changed or seemingly even been touched in the six years since the divorce. Canyon had been separated from his father and Dylan to live exclusively with his mother.
And even though Canyon was too proud to admit it, he was clearly disappointed that their father was not present to welcome his son home. As Canyon looked down at his shoes, Dylan tried to cheer him up by assuring his brother that their father would be home soon and was truly excited to have Canyon back home for a while. Canyon simply shrugged, unconvinced.
Dylan wouldn’t be deterred. He simply wrapped his arms around Canyon and confessed that he was grateful to have Dylan back as well. Canyon’s heart began to beat faster as the close, intimate connection between them had not faltered in the six years since the divorce and subsequent separation.
